Why Kinviq verifies everyone
Kinviq is only for adults aged 18 and over. You can create an account straight away, but it stays inactive until your email is confirmed, your profile is set up and your adult verification is approved. Until then you cannot browse profiles, message or call anyone, or see members’ photos and videos. On a couple account, both adults verify separately.
Step 1: the live face and age check
- Your device guides you. A small face detector runs in your browser and gives one instruction at a time, such as turning your head or moving closer. The order changes every time, and each step only counts once the movement is actually seen, so a still photo or an old recording does not pass.
- Only a few still frames leave your device. The video is never recorded or uploaded. When the check is finished, the camera is turned off and a handful of frames are sent to Kinviq’s server.
- Kinviq’s server makes the decision. It checks that a real, live person is in front of the camera and estimates whether they are an adult. If both answers are confident, the account is approved and no document is needed.
Step 2, only if needed: an identity document
Estimating age from a face has limits, especially close to an 18th birthday. If the live check confirms a real person but cannot tell your age with enough confidence, you are asked for a photo of a current identity document. Kinviq’s server reads the date of birth from it and compares the photo on the document with your live capture. A current document showing an adult whose face clearly matches is approved.
When the checks are not sure
Where your images go
- No outside verification service. The face, age and document checks run on Kinviq’s own server. Verification images are not sent to a third-party verification or AI company.
- Encrypted storage. Verification files are encrypted before they are stored in Kinviq’s cloud storage, and face references are stored encrypted. Kinviq’s server decrypts them only to verify, moderate and process them.
- Never shown to members. Your verification images and face reference are not profile photos, and other members cannot see them.
In-person confirmations
After meeting someone, members can confirm that they met in person, and the number of confirmations appears on a profile. Members can choose to accept messages or party guests only from people with confirmations. To stop one person confirming themselves through a second account, Kinviq’s server compares the face references of the two accounts. A confirmation is refused if the accounts look like the same person or have been used on the same browser. Unclear results go to an administrator and are not counted. Only the outcome is kept, never a similarity score.
What is kept, and for how long
- Evidence from an attempt is kept while it is being decided and for 30 days after the decision, then deleted automatically.
- After a successful check, Kinviq keeps one face image from your live check as a private face reference. It is never shown to you or to other members; only authorised Kinviq administrators can open it, for safety and security reviews. Kinviq uses it to check who appears in photos and videos you upload, and for in-person confirmations. It is deleted when you delete your account.
- Deleting your account permanently removes your verification records, face reference and stored files. If storage does not confirm the removal straight away, Kinviq retries it automatically. See how to delete your account.
Verification shows that an account belongs to a real adult who passed these checks. It is not a background check. Read Safety & Consent for advice on meeting people, and the Privacy Notice for the full detail.
Frequently asked questions
Is the video of my face recorded or uploaded?
No. Your device guides you through the live check, but the video is never recorded, uploaded or stored. When the check finishes, the camera is turned off and a handful of still frames are sent to Kinviq’s server.
Are my face or my identity document sent to another company to be checked?
No. Kinviq runs the face, age and document checks on its own server, and does not send verification images to an outside verification or AI service. The files are encrypted before they are put in Kinviq’s cloud storage.
Will I always have to upload an identity document?
No. A document is only asked for when the live check confirms a real person but cannot tell your age with enough confidence. Many adults are approved without one, but some genuine adults will be asked for a document.
What happens if the checks are not sure?
An uncertain or unavailable check never approves an account. Your submission goes to a Kinviq reviewer instead, and member features stay off until there is an approved result.
How long does Kinviq keep my verification images?
Evidence from an attempt is kept while it is being decided and for 30 days afterwards, and is then deleted automatically. After a successful check, Kinviq keeps one face image from your live check as a private face reference. It is never shown to you or to other members; only authorised Kinviq administrators can open it, for safety and security reviews. Kinviq uses it to check who appears in photos and videos you upload, and to stop one person confirming themselves in person through a second account. It is deleted when you delete your account.
Does verification mean every member is safe to meet?
No. Verification shows that an account belongs to a real adult who passed Kinviq’s checks. It is not a background check, so meet in public and tell someone where you are going.
How do I delete my verification data?
Permanently deleting your account from account settings removes your verification records, face reference and stored files. If storage does not confirm the removal straight away, Kinviq retries it automatically.
